Formula 1 ‘Facts’
This TV campaign takes a close look at some of the dramatic effects of an F1 car. The fact that a speeding F1 car punches a hole in the air and for a moment leaves a vacuum that could suck up a manhole cover. Due to the aerofoil design, over a certain speed it creates a down force that would let it drive up-side down, and that under extreme braking some drivers have reported that tears shoot form their tear ducts. The promo was shot over three nights in & around Marseille, a location where we could get hold of an F1 Car and that had a tunnel which could be closed for filming. There was also a special effects shoot which took place in Park Royal. This involved a company called Artem who built us a bit of road containing a manhole and a rig in which to hang a driver and fire tears from his eyes. This was all filmed in super-slow motion on a phantom camera and used a robotic arm, known as the bolt rig, to follow the movement of the tears. All in all 11 cameras (5x go pro 3, 3x cannon 5D, 1x Cannon 7D, 1x Alexa, 1X Phantom) were used to shoot the ad with meticulous planning to assure the car was captured from all angles.
